I don’t I will ever get sick of midi dresses. They are the most relaxed, chic dress style for Spring (whenever that arrives, as I am still in tights and boots). And on cold stormy evenings I love to peruse websites finding style ideas to share with you. One thing I will note about this season is how bright it is. Reds, greens, cerise pink, sunshine yellow as well as the usual florals and pastels all make an appearance. I have a couple of tips to share when choosing midi dresses that you may like to know. I love something with a seam at the waist. I feel on my body shape it’s flattering and that bit of definition keeps proportion. I’m not a fan of the shift dress that just hangs straight down. I also look for darting around the chest so that the dress is more form fitting, but this isn’t a deal breaker if the piece has structure elsewhere. Next, I like to be able to wear lots of shoe varieties with midi dresses – ankle boots especially. But the dress needs to get dressy easily with some heels too. A bit of versatility gives you more bang for your buck. If a block colour is your choice, look for pieces with some other details like some frill, an embellished neckline or a nice hem detail. This season everything is so bright that I think without some other feature on the dress, there is a risk of the colour looking flat. Also to note on the bright colours, avoid dark shoes and opt for a pattered stiletto or metallic which is a softer combination.
I also like a sleeve; ASOS have a huge selection of styles that fit the bill like the Boohoo exclusive pieces or the shirt dress styles from Fashion Union that I think work under a leather jacket. Regardless of how you choose to wear yours this season, I can safely say that midi dresses are a super investment and go to piece. Below is my current edit of 41 for you to browse through!
