MONOCHROME OUTFIT IDEAS

Burgundy items of clothing

Monochrome outfit ideas don’t have to revolve around black and white. Actually, the term refers to wearing one colour head to toe if we are going to get all factual. I think it’s one of the most chic and reliable outfit choices and one that I have been styling and wearing for the season (well so far). So let’s talk about where this is stemming from. Erdem channelled the burgundy look via a ladylike cape coat followed by Chloe and 16 Arlington – Chloe’s revival is much talked about thanks to the appointment of Creative Director Chemena Kamali, who has brought boho back in a wearable, non naughties, kind of way. Her take on the head to toe in one colour comprises of leather trousers and a cut out roll neck sweater. It’s the mix of contrasting fabrics that makes this aesthetic appealing. I’m going to sound like a broken record with this advice, but it stands true for a lot of trends this season. But I know you want to know how to get the look. Here is my take.

I love the idea of sequins with faux fur – check out River Island’s oversize sequin midi dress (€90) for cues on how to do party season with something timeless. In addition, a faux fur jacket never dates (the above is €132) and works with a party dress and denim equally. If you have said jacket, don’t keep it for occasions, get it out with your casual outfits and show it some air. I often wear mine with wide leg denims and runners. Also please take not of the new Christmas shoe collection from Penneys, these velvet heels (€20 available in store during December) as a perfect finish to this monochrome look. And again, the shoes will work with jeans for some extra wears.

And who do I think has been doing this well? Take a look at Zendaya’s Louis Vuitton leather gown she wore recently in New York, and Emily Ratajowski’s Donna Karen look for the LACMA Gala (this was kind of more of a rust colour but I loved it).
